A well-burned candle is a safe candle. A few small habits will give you a clean, even burn from the first light to the last.
The first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the vessel, usually 2 to 3 hours. Soy wax has a memory. If you put it out before the top fully melts, it may tunnel and burn unevenly for the rest of its life.
Before every burn, trim the cotton wick to about 1/4 inch. A trimmed wick burns cleaner, reduces soot, and keeps the flame the right size. Let the candle cool and harden fully before trimming.
Burn your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time. Longer burns let the vessel overheat and the wick mushroom. Let the candle cool completely before relighting.
Retire the candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains. Burning past that point can overheat the bottom of the vessel.
Once your candle is finished, the Makesy 8 oz vessel is yours to keep. Warm any leftover wax with hot water, wipe it clean, and use it for a small plant, brushes, or anything else worth holding.
If anything about your candle does not seem right, stop burning it and email hello@firesidescents.com. We are happy to help.
